Favourite stat of the day: Rashford, for the third season running, has fewer goals than Ashley Barnes.

I think I might have heard something similar, but I'm not sure where and I'm not sure how that's even measured. When Lynch is good he's very good, but when he's bad he's catastrophic, and then there are the occasions when he just goes missing. But I'm sure he'll get a job somewhere, probably at the same level.

So it says in the Mirror. Maybe they've decided Joel Glazer is the man to be technical director?

Joel Lynch No great surprise. Generally disliked by supporters (in part because he somehow manages to "get injured" during almost every holiday period, especially Christmas.) His form is also erratic and style of play industrial rather than industrious. Won't be missed.

Alex Baptiste Solid journeyman at the tail-end of his career. Spent the second half of the season on loan at Luton, where he made but two appearances. No chance of new contract at our level anymore.

Jake Bidwell Bit of a surprise. Not great but he's our only experienced LB, and Warburton knows him well from their time together at Brentford. No idea how much money he's on of course, and that could be the deciding factor.

Jordon Cousins He's had hard luck. Injured for a good part of his time with us, and spotty form initially when he did play didn't endear him to fans. He came on strongly at the end of this past season but we've a lot of mid-field options and he's drawn the short straw.

Paweł Wszołek Will be a big miss I think. Unorthodox for a winger — runs like a sailor, and hates to cross the ball — but can play anywhere down the right side, never dogs it and manages to come up with important goals often enough to make him a bit of a fan favourite, but we've a lot of up and coming players in his slot and that's the direction the club's headed.

And offered a new contract to:

Angel Rangel Interesting decision. He's unlikely to be a regular and, to this point, he's the only older player offered a new deal. The thought is he might be seen a player-coach, with managerial potential down the line. He's apparently great in the dressing room and is certainly very articulate.
Our decision to let Angel Rangel go looks crazier every day, especially as Potter will be leaving. Rangel comes across well in every aspect and is surely the next Swansea manager. Perhaps spending some time away from the dressing room is best.

And so it has come to pass with Charlie signing a 2 year deal yesterday. I'm chuffed to bits with this.

Burnley confirm three departures, Stephen Ward, Anders Lindegaard and Jon Walters (the latter announced his retirement a short while back). Crouch is out of contract.

Options for an extra year given to Aaron Lennon, Phil Bardsley and Steven Defour. Not complaining at any of those - I dearly wish we could see an injury-free Defour.

Scunthorpe release Josh Morris, who unsurprisingly sees his future at a higher level, plus defender Byron Webster who signed short-term in January, and back-up back-up keeper Jon Flatt.

Options taken up on Lee Novak, Levi Sutton, "Neymar's body double" Yasin Ben El Mhanni and a couple of other young 'uns.

Loanees (George Thomas, Tony McMahon, Tom Pearce, Jak Alnwick and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson) return to parent clubs with a mix of thanks, shrugs and don't let the door hit your arse on the way out.

I was surprised to see Flatt sign for Scunny in the summer - he started the 17/18 season on loan for us having played the last 10 games of our promotion season in 15/16 and appeared to have gone backwards instead of progressing. His ineptitude led to us taking a punt on Scott Flinders who has been a revelation.

Lincoln have announced their retained list. Everyone is under contract except for Matt Gilks (contract offered), Michael O'Conner (offered new deal) and Sam Habergham. I sponsor Habergham along with others, and he's been with us since the Cowleys took charge. Unfortunately the last 2 years he's suffered terribly with injuries and didn't feature at all last season. Think he's another specialist look at him. He's a good player, but who knows whether he's League 1 class - plus Harry Toffolo was an ever present and one of the players of the season, so I think if we do offer Habergham a one year deal he'll be loaned off somewhere to prove his fitness. Meanwhile, we're looking to sponsor someone else.

The loanees we had have all gone back to their parent clubs. We had first dibs on signing Mark O'Hara, put on the transfer list by Posh, but as their Chairman likes to point out on twitter, that deadline for us to make a bid is fast running out.

He was largely excellent. Scored our goal of the season against Swindon, but since Danny Rowe came in found his first team place just behind Akinde threatened, and largely was used as a sub. Did score some excellent goals, and very comfortable on the ball, running at defences. It's unlikely that Ipswich will wish to sell Rowe now they're down in League One, so i'd happily have McCartan back next season.

Announced yesterday that O'Conner has signed a one year deal. Possibly still some doubts over his fitness long term, but he is still only 31 and has plenty of experience of League 1.

Doubt it. I think he will join the long list of names that arrived with a fanfare under Dyche and then never set foot on the pitch. Off the top of my head, Tendayi Darikwa, Nathaniel Chalobah, Georges-Kevin N'Koudou, Matej Vydra, Ben Gibson. It's bloody infuriating sometimes.

The club have resisted the pressure to go full time just yet. That's a U-turn on earlier statements, but they've decided that keeping the current squad together and maintaining momentum is the best way to approach next season.

There were already eight under contract for 19/20. In addition:

New deals agreed since end of season
                                                Festus Arthur (defender)

                                                Offered new contract
                                                Ash Palmer (defender)

                                                Leaving
Scott Duxbury (full back) – contract offer withdrawn
                                                Adam Etches (forward) – Released
                                                Darren Stephenson (winger) – Released
Jamie Stott (defender) – loan ended and returning to Oldham
Matty Warburton (forward) – out of contract and signed for Northampton

For the third summer in a row we've lost our out-of-contract leading scorer to a league club, hopefully we can replace Matty and move on without him as well as we've done previously.

Duxbury was linked with three League One clubs over recent months. Reading between the lines he was hedging his bets for a FL contract, or using league interest as leverage, either way he was supposed to attend and sign yesterday and didn’t show, so they withdrew it. As I write, A.F.C Fylde have just announced they’ve signed him, so he’s probably more than doubled his wages.

I would love to get Stott back either on loan or permanently, but from Crusoe’s post on this thread I expect Oldham will need him. Etches was the future a couple of years ago, but hasn’t been close to making the bench any more, Stephenson never really worked out for us and I can live without him, wouldn’t be surprised to see Chorley take him back, he looked unplayable for them in the past.

After that, we have to factor in the potential transfer ban and the possibility of bringing some of the loanees in from the cold. I don't think that the former will have a massive impact, partly because of the potential of the latter.

Of the current squad I wouldn't be surprised to see Luiz go, with CBs Zouma and Tomori having had good loan spells, the former a more likely recall than the latter. Mount and James have also had excellent seasons but they're both young and might be given one more year elsewhere.

Drinkwater will go unless the money he's on is too good and he wants to do a Winston Bogarde. Zappacosta doesn't get much playing time and might fancy a return to Italy.

If Sarri goes (doubt if he will) he might want to take Jorginho with him and I'm not sure if we'll hang on to Kovacic, assuming that we're allowed to.

The striker question is the biggie. Sarri wants to keep Higuain, Morata's staying in Spain for another year but are Batshuayi and Abraham good enough to join Giroud?

I can't see many of the more experienced players out on loan returning and a fair few could be sold or leave on a free. Sadly Bakayoko told Gattuso to fuck off yesterday evening so I expect he'll be back at Cobham fairly soon!

So Cahill is set to leave, I believe, though Luiz has signed a new deal and will be staying. I have also seen speculation that Zouma, Mount and James will indeed be part of next year's first team squad along with a recall for Batshuayi.

Rumours abound over the manager's position.

According to Wiki we've released a slew of young players. I wonder if that's connected to the changes in the rules for sending players out on loan that have been proposed/agreed.

Don't think Uros has shared Donny's list, but Andy Butler has rejected their new contract in favour of a return to Scunthorpe. Presumably Scunny were offering an extra year, I'd be surprised if it was more money.

He's somehow turned 35 in the 11 years he's been away. I still think of him as early 20s, same with Billy Sharp and others from the glory years of the mid 00s, it irks me slightly to see them described as veterans.
