No sentimentality from Aston Villa, who wisely cut loose a cohort of ageing out of contract players:
    Albert Adomah 31/116/36
    Mark Bunn 34/18/1
    Ritchie de Laet 30/8/0
    Tommy Elphick 31/41/11
    Alan Hutton 34/185/33
    Mile Jedinak 35/70/17
    Micah Richards 31/26/0
    Glenn Whelan 35/68/35
(age at start of next season/club league appearances/league appearances last season)

Adomah started the play-off final, so maybe he can consider himself unfortunate, Jedinak and Whelan were unused subs. De Laet was out on loan all season.

They are now in an interesting position. Once you discount...
    - the four loanees who played in the final (I'm not including El Ghazi in that total as they've got an option to buy at the end of his loan, but am including Mings even though consensus is they'll take him permanently. You could imagine Abraham and Tuanzebe returning on loan too, I suppose)
    - senior players they had out on loan, assuming if they didn't want them in the Championship, they presumably don't want them higher-up (Hogan, Gardner - apparently about to be swapped for Birmingham's Jota, Tshibola, McCormack, although perhaps 21-year-old James Bree could make a case)
    - youngsters Davis/Ramsey/Hepburn-Murphy, who had a handful of sub appearances last year
    - French right-back Frederic Guilbert (24), who signed in January but stayed at Caen until the end of the season

...they currently have 14 senior players, 3 of whom are goalkeepers and one of whom (Henri Lansbury) only made three league appearances last season due to injury. They're very light striker-wise, plus that squad was really on the point of going over the cliff age-wise...

    GK Ĝrjan Nyland 23/28
    DF Neil Taylor 31/30
    DF James Chester 28/30
    MF John McGinn 41/24
    MF Henri Lansbury 3/28
    MF Jack Grealish 31/23
    GK Jed Steer 16/26
    MF Conor Hourihane 43/28
MF Andre Green 18/21 (won't count towards 25-man Prem squad)
    MF Birkir Bjarnason 17/31
    FW Anwar El Ghazi 31/24
    FW Jonathan Kodjia 38/29
    DF Ahmed Elmohamady 38/30
    GK Lovre Kalinić 7/29
(league appearances last season/age at start of next season)

Liverpool have got on with the "we move on" job straightaway. Moreno and Sturridge available for anyone who wants them. Nice touch for Klopp to point out that any potential suitors will be buying European champions.

Good for the likes of Man Utd.

Lots of "will he won't he" discussion about Christian Eriksen today after he apparently said something in a Danish interview that he's had to backtrack a bit from. It looks like Spurs are going to end up in a similar position Liverpool found themselves in with Coutinho (although in retrospect that was the best thing they did in the transfer market since selling Keegan and using the money to buy Dalglish).
