Northern Premier League
Premier Division
South Shields v Buxton
Warrington Town v Nantwich Town
Division One East
Brighouse Town v Sheffield
Pontefract Collieries v Ossett Town
Division One West
Radcliffe v Ramsbottom United
Leek Town v Colne
All single matches, semi finals this week, finals next Saturday. Premier Division final winners go on to the Superfinal against the winners of the Southern League Premier Division Central for a spot in the National League North.
No play offs at steps 5 or 6 this year because of the general restructurings and the FA having the daft cross league points-per-game thingy for promotion.Last edited by longeared; 27-04-2019, 20:56. Reason: Format appears to have been invented by roryfsmith

Bloody hell this is all too confusing.
So there are seven step 4 divisions in the country, but only five places available for playoff winners. So the two playoff winners with the lowest points per game ratios from the season will NOT be promoted.

Anyway, barring Leeds somehow contriving to lose at Portman Road next weekend (something only Wigan and Rotherham have done as visitors this season), we know that the Championship playoffs will be:
Derby/Middlesbrough v Leeds
Aston Villa v West Brom

So it sounds like the potentially-fruitless step 4 playoffs start tonight. According to the Isthmian League website:
Tonight in the South East playoffs Horsham will take on Haywards Heath Town, whilst Hastings United take on Ashford United, with the Final on Friday.
Tomorrow in the South Central playoffs Bracknell Town host Westfield and Cheshunt play Marlow. Final on Saturday.
On Wednesday it's the North semi-finals with Aveley entertaining Heybridge Swifts and Maldon & Tiptree playing Coggeshall Town. Final on Sunday.

And the Isthmian Premier playoffs (why aren't they in that diagram above - what does that even mean?) have their semi finals on Thursday with the final on bank holiday Monday.
Carshalton Athletic v Merstham
Haringey Borough v Tonbridge Angels

In my area, Southern League Premier South semi-finals are as follows on Wednesday :
7.45pm Metropolitan Police v Salisbury 7.45pm Taunton Town v Poole Town
With the Isthmian Premier fixtures on Thursday being ;
7.45pm Carshalton Athletic v Merstham 7.45pm Haringey Borough v Tonbridge Angels
I'm pretty sure I'm going to Carshalton's game. I may even wander round the corner for Met Police's if Barca v Liverpool on the telly doesn't grab me, though I'm not sure how many Salisbury will take to provide an atmosphere, especially as a 0-6 home defeat on Saturday cost them home advantage.Last edited by Ray de Galles; 29-04-2019, 11:11.

There's a table floating around on Twitter that shows there are three teams who go into the step 4 play offs knowing they can't be promoted. One of these is Bedford Town, they issued a statement yesterday pointing out they knew the rules before the start of the season, that they would treat the games in a normal manner as clubs elsewhere in step 4 might be looking to them to knock other teams out and mentioned that the FA have said that, if clubs are needed to fill divisions (eg the space that arises following the demise of North Ferriby), then they will look to promote upwards rather than offer relegation reprieves - therefore there is still a chance of promotion anyway and they would be foolish to pass it up if the opportunity were to later become available.
Fortunately this dog's dinner should be in place for this season only, there's another big reorganisation due next summer when we go to the full 1-2-4-8-16 non-league pyramid.

So yeah, since the bottom two are from the same division, if either of them win the S1C playoffs then they will still miss out, and that means that Haywards Heath will also definitely miss out.
Brighouse, 3rd in NP1E, have a home semi final and potentially a home final but could win their playoffs and still miss out if all (or all bar one) of the lower-seed teams from the other leagues below them in this table are knocked out (i.e. Westfield, Haywards Heath and Bedford/Sutton Coldfield).Last edited by Kevin S; 29-04-2019, 13:55.

Ashford got the away win, and will travel to Horsham in the Isthmian Div.1 SE final. As you can guess, the defeat of Haywards Heath has not gone down too well tonight with fans of Sheffield and Ossett, who as a result are now also both ineligible for promotion before a ball is kicked.League Pos Team Pts P PPG S1C 2 Bromsgrove 87 38 2.29 I1N 2 Aveley 80 38 2.11 I1N 3 Maldon & Tiptree 79 38 2.08 I1SE 2 Horsham 74 36 2.06 S1C 3 Corby 77 38 2.03 I1SC 2 Bracknell 77 38 2.03 NP1E 2 Pontefract 76 38 2.00 I1SC 3 Cheshunt 76 38 2.00 S1S 2 Cirencester 75 38 1.97 S1S 3 Yate 75 38 1.97 NP1W 2 Radcliffe 75 38 1.97 NP1W 3 Leek 74 38 1.95 I1N 4 Coggeshall 74 38 1.95 I1N 5 Heybridge 74 38 1.95 . . . . . . A few more of those step 4 semi finals tonight:
I1SC
Bracknell v Westfield
Cheshunt v Marlow
NP1E
Brighouse v Sheffield
Pontefract v Ossett
NP1W
Radcliffe v Ramsbottom
At a glance a possible humorous/ridiculous outcome tonight would be Westfield winning but also being eliminated at the same time, which would happen if both Sheffield and Ossett (who now know they cannot be promoted) both lose.
