    Tommy Smith Dead

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted. A Liverpool great they say but a racist and a bully says Howard Gayle. I'm with Gayle on this one hence no RIP.

Not just Gayle but also Dave Hill, who got the quotes on tape.

He could undoubtedly have had me in a fight, but Tommy Smith, like Hunter and Harris and numerous others at that time, was called a "hard man" when what he actually was was a "dirty bastard".

Making a career out of planting your studs into somebody's calf - yes, I know Smith was more skillful than he was often given credit for, but that wasn't what his reputation was built on - isn't hard; it's shithousery.

His death led on BBC (R5L) yesterday. Which seems over the top.

I did not know this. I doubt anything happened because it was just 'banter'.

Kenny Dalglish has apparently lead the tributes to this racist fuck. Why oh why?

On Final Score, they discussed his demise to a backdrop of him hacking down a Manchester United player in the 1977 Cup Final and then suggesting that the victim dived. Dion Dublin then didn't echo Guy's comments above, but sounded like he'd have liked to.

Yep, hard to find anything to argue with on this thread.

Because Kenny doesn't see race or racism.

Hey G, thought you'd gone missing!

Perhaps Sir Kenny might still be in the employ of Liverpool FC? Just a thought.
