David Stockdale is in goal for Southend today. I feel like he used to be talked about as one for the future. He's 33 and a bit tubby.

Has anybody mentioned Claudio Pizarro, who'll be turning 40 in October? Still getting a game for Werder.

Pierre Webó re-signed for Nacional of Uruguay yesterday, a mere sixteen years after leaving them. I was slightly surprised to find he's only 36.

George Weah played 79 minutes in Liberia’s friendly against Nigeria today (a match organised to celebrate his career and retire his jersey).
His son is playing for the US against Mexico tonight.

Do retiring players still hang up their boots? Presumably nowadays theyre more likely to landfill them.

Not strictly valid for the thread but :
Paul Scholes plays for Royton Town in Manchester Premier League

Paul Scholes made up the numbers for Royton Town as they lost 1-0 at Stockport Georgians today - his son is a more regular player for them.

Neil Ashton, former Salop full back, is playing for Cefn Druids live on S4C right now.

Paul Bastock, no stranger to this thread, played for Grantham Town on Saturday as their regular keeper was injured. He was born in May 1970 and played his first senior competitive game in October 1988.

I'm not sure I really followed that but it sounds fascinating.

Yes and no on Cisse
The historical club of Paolo Rossi and Roby Baggio went bankrupt earlier this year. The club’s assets were acquired at auction by the owner of the Diesel fashion brand, who had been running his own club (Bassano Virtus) about 30 km away. The clubs were merged and are supposed to start play as L.R. Vicenza Virtus in this season’s Serie C.
The “club” that Cisse “signed” for is a completely different entity run by two French guys who are trying to acquire the old club’s licence (which was forfeited at bankruptcy) from the FIGC. But the FIGC hasn’t shown any interest in them, and their club remains unrecognised. As if that wasnt enough, Cisse has already gone back to Senegal to make a television show.

Have we done Kevin Lisbie on this thread recently?
Now 39, he scored four (including a seven-minute hat-trick) for Cray Valley Paper Mills in their 5-3 away win at Lordswood yesterday.

Mind you, he's had that air of "knackered after 10 minutes" about him since he was 16.

That was a good goal, but yeah, Wayne looked like his lungs were on fire afterwards

A bit off that none of his team mates seemed to congratulate him on that.

Missed a penalty against Hitchin in the Herts Charity Cup this week. Hitchin won 0–1 (also from a penalty.)
