    PFA Teams of the Year

    Here's the 4th Division team:

    Joe Lewis (Peterborough)
    Craig Pead (Brentford)
    Stephen Foster (Darlington)
    Danny Swailes (MK Dons)
    Dean Lewington (MK Dons)
    Jason Puncheon (Barnet)
    Keith Andrews (MK Dons)
    Lloyd Dyer (MK Dons)
    George Boyd (Peterborough)
    Jack Lester (Chesterfield)
    Aaron McLean (Peterborough)

Not a bad choice - with one glaring exception.
Craig Pead is only the third best right back at Brentford and, believe me, the competition isn't strong. I can only imagine it's a sympathy vote from the likes of George Boyd or any of the other wingers who've ripped him a new arsehole this season. Bizarrely, Pead also made last season's team of the year with champions Walsall who promptly released him presumably on the grounds that he couldn't cope with 3rd division football.

At this time of the year one of the few pleasures available to supporters of teams like Brentford is compiling lists of the players they'd like to get rid of and never again have to pay to watch. Pead is on just about everyone's list only shortly behind utterly useless goalkeeper Simon Brown. Perhaps the lowest point of a miserable season was at Darlington when Pead and Brown actually started trading blows. Brentford fans were encouraging the ref to send both of them off.

Any strange or controversial selections in the other leagues' teams?

I wonder if Stephen Brogan would've made it if he hadn't smashed his leg in Milton Keynes.

PFA "Championship" Team of the Year:

      Wayne Hennessey (Wolves)

      Bradley Orr (Bristol City)
      Ryan Shawcross (Stoke)
      Dan Shittu (Watford)
      Paul Robinson (West Brom)

      Brian Howard (Barnsley)
      Marvin Elliott (Bristol City)
      Liam Lawrence (Stoke)
      Jonathan Greening (West Brom)

      Ricardo Fuller (Stoke)
      Kevin Phillips (West Brom)

The unimpressive nature of this XI illustrating the well documented mediocrity in the division. Can you see any of the players listed having top flight success in the future? Hennessey maybe?

I should add that when I said 'not a bad choice', I was solely considering performances on the pitch and ignoring the moral implications of choosing MK Dons players or a diving cheat like Jack Lester.

a diving cheat like Jack Lester.

Heavens, is he *still* doing that?

Even more so as far as I can tell. While your other attributes may diminish with age, the ability to throw yourself to the ground having been breathed on by a defender remains relatively unscathed.

If I'd been asked to take a wild guess at the best player in the 2nd division, having watched very little of it indeed, I'd have said Zoltan Gera. I assume his absence from the team of the year means I'm completely wrong about that.

Richard Wellens makes the League One team yet again. Who is he sleeping with?
