For me, it’s when Tom’s on his own, looking at beauty. He has a strange affection for things. He likes handsome hotel clerks. He’s moved by art and music. He’s just never been exposed to it in the way the privileged characters are.

“I think that’s what Highsmith is really talking about. If you dismiss certain people and deny them the art and beauty that other people in the world have, a darkness arises. And people go to great lengths to rebalance that lack of dignity.”
True. The scene where Tom has tears in his eyes during a song (a song which then recurs in most episodes) is significant. The people he kills (+ Marj) pretend to be creative but are totally shallow. Marj can't write (as shown by Tom's red ink all over her draft) and her beau can't paint (his dad and Marj don't flinch when Tom reads the letter "confessing" this).

Does Andrew Scott change his accent for this? Also isn't he a bit old for the role? He's nearly 50

He doesnt have a Deefer accent here, its generic American thats a lot better than that Carcetti wanker. He is far far too old, as is the Dickie actor, which would make sense if theyd planned it as the first adaption of the series of novels, but i dont think thats the case (and this was filmed years ago, for Showtime not netflix, id say any sequels are dead in the water).

Once you suspend your disbelief re him being almost as old as Dickie's dad, it really works. Well, except for the Freddy Miles actor. Noone could do better than PS Hoffman seeing through and freaking out Matt Damon Ripley ("Tommy, hows the peeping? Tommy Tommy"), but Sting Minimus is up there with their dad for inert and utterly without presence. And also obviously waaay younger than supposed peer Dickie. Thank god for the cat in that episode.

Yeah. The Maine Coon was great. Worth an Emmy for sure.

Sort of, yeah. But it does beg the question as to what he was doing with his previous life in NY.

Gotta admit I found him seriously creepy, which I think was the point.

Haven't watched Ripley yet so skimmed the last page and a half.

Have just finished S3 of The Great Pottery Throwdown. Enriching.

Forgive me for breaking the unspoken rule that we don't ask about who or what Lang Spoon means by something (winking emoji, no offence LS) but who or what is a Sting Minimus?

                  It's his offspring Eliot Sumner.

Ripley cast member Eliot Sumner is Sting's lad.

I started Fallout - was prepared to overlook the sketched-in video game 'world building' but then when the high priest started telling the 'knights' about the 'enclave' having 'an object', I thought 'Nah. I'm out'

Murder in Provence: utter garbage but pretty to look at. Ideal if you want the TV on while focusing on your iPad like I do.

Well if by relaxed you mean not looking where they’re going, using horns instead of brakes and almost complete colour blindness when it comes to traffic lights, I can confirm that Palermo drivers are ‘relaxed’.

I honeymooned in Amalfi in 1998. It was beautiful but the driving went way beyond relaxed. And I didn’t drive. I was frightened enough being driven in buses by experts.

Although the roads generally don’t allow fast driving. You’ll be able to cycle faster than most traffic but be very careful of the hairpin bends.

I hired a car for 2 days around there. On day one we went from Sorrento to Pompeii, Pompeii to Herculaneum and Herculaneum bavck to Sorrento.
On day 2, I gave the car back. My nerves were shredded. And I've driven in Turkey.

I almost bailed at that point. Glad I didn't.

Don't worry too much about that. They're essentially a cult devoted to collecting dangerous pre wat technology to prevent people from destroying the world again. They're not talking about something magical, they're talking about a 200 year old laser gun or a nuclear weapon or similar which 200 years after the apocalypse just seems like magic

Their origin story is that they were soldiers put in charge ox security at a pre apicalypse weapons lab, who discovered what was going on, were deeply unimpressed, shot all the scientists, rebelled against the us govt, but the world ended before anyone noticed.

I've watched 1 1/2 episodes, and I amazed. In fairness casting Walton goggins is a masterstroke. He really chewed up the scenery like nothing else

spoilers to follow unless you already assume the worst in which case, it exactly what you expect.
