I'm watching The Dropout, with Amanda Seyfried playing Elizabeth Holmes, the CEO of Theranos.

It's decent enough but nothing special. A great story told capably. There's not enough science in it, and a bit too much staring at a computer screen waiting to see if it reports an error, or whether the machine flashes a green light or a red light. Stephen Fry is in it as an older engineer, which should have warned me off, but he's actually OK in it

    I’ve started 3 Body Problem.

I fear it’s going to be one of these shows where a bunch of crazy shit happens but none of the characters feel like real people apart from advancing the plot.

They’re working on bringing that Daredevil into the MCU. According to IMDB, Bernthal’s Punisher will be on that show.

However, that show is also undergoing a massive rewrite, so who knows what it will look like.

Just started watching The Punisher on Disney +, the extended Daredevil universe with Jon Bernthal.

    Holy. Fuck.

There is zero chance he gets brought into the MCU.

Although I always enjoyed the comics when he and Daredevil threw hands, there's a great Nocenti/Romita Jnr issue where they go at it like maniacs. Pic from author's collection (Daredevil Legends Vol 4).

There are doubts over a third series of Kin, with some of the main actors becoming quite famous and busy in the meantime. Getting them all together could be problematic.

Sums it up well. They have positioned themselves well for a third series and could take it I think.

Apples Never Fall: utter tosh but enjoyable nonetheless. Mrs. S read the book, by the same author as Big Little Lies. Both books set close to our neck of the woods, both adaptations transported across the Pacific.

There is a massive suspension of disbelief required in Episode 1, upon which much of the plot appears to hinge. On last night's Aussie Gogglebox their reactions were pretty similar to mine, across the board.

Oh I forgot. Last ep of Halo season 2 today. Watched it at lunchtime.
On the plus side at last some excellent, if rather too short ultraviolence. On the downside STOP GETTING FLOOD WRONG!
If there's a season 3 it'll be the first game story. So I'm hoping for A LOT of Covenant smashing.

I've started Masters of the Air. Three episodes in. It's... fine, I guess. It might be the genre is not for me, but I can't really get excited about it yet, don't really care about the characters. Some of the flying graphics look a bit shonky. The in-plane stuff is very well done. I'll keep watching, slowly, but it's not going to be something I tell my friends to watch.

Gonna start The Three Body Problem tonight. Very much looking forward to it, even if it is by the people who did Game of swords of Dobber.

Before then I need to finish Beacon 23. Which is an avaerage but mildly diverting adaptation of Hugh Howey's short stories about an interstellar lighthouse.
Hugh Howey of course penned the earlier hit "Silo."

Yes, three episodes in and really enjoying it. I think the extended series format suits Ritchie - he’s not desperately trying to cram all his directorial trickiness into a 100 minute film time.

We're watching A Killer Paradox (netflix), a Korean drama about a young slacker guy who in the first episode ends up killing a guy who attacks him, and then we learn that the guy he killed was himself a serial killer, and well, that's pretty much the starting point. The first episode was pretty hard to follow, as it kept jumping back and forth into flashbacks, but happily we stuck with it, and the subsequent episodes have been much easier to follow and the whole thing is an intriguing story.

We watched Prisoner, a Danish prison drama on the iPlayer. The focus is on the warders, allowing for enough off site scenes to prevent it becoming too claustrophobic. Sofie Gråbøl plays one of the warders, and is as good as ever. I'm not usually that keen on jailhouse stuff but this held our attention, is a flab free six parter and reaches a conclusion without too blatantly leaving everything hanging for a further series.

We've started watching Never Have I Ever on Netflix. American high school comedy about a girl from an Indian family trying to be cooler than she is. Given that premise, its much better than it sounds. Also its narrated by John McEnroe, which is very strange but it works.

The accents and dialogue were spot on (for me anyway).

It might have worked if the new lead had been a more sympathetic character - yes, J.D. was often annoying but you rooted for him because he genuinely cared about his patients and colleagues. There was something about Lucy that just seemed... off somehow. Almost like the character was written to be another Elliott, but was played like a more detached J.D.

I watched that and yet don’t recall much about it.

As I recall, it didn’t affirm the audience’s lives. Just life in general.

The description of Dear Edward on Apple states that it's "heartbreaking, life affirming, uplifting." I don't want my heart broken, nor my life affirmed, and I can also do without being uplifted by a TV show. So I guess I'll pass.

I don’t remember thinking it was bad at the time, but when I rewatched it during COVID, it just felt half-baked.

It did have some good actors who have gone on to better things.

The podcast about it with the stars, started in the pandemic, is still going, I think. It’s pretty good but overloaded with ads so I stopped listening. The ones with Bill Lawrence or Sarah Chalke are the best ones.

Early series ‘Scrubs’ were very good indeed.

Neil Flynn gained some traction playing the janitor in ‘Scrubs’ and was given a leading part in a family sitcom called ‘The Middle’ with Patricia Heaton as his wife. My expectations weren’t very high - in fact I didn’t seek it out at all - but happened to see a few episodes some years back and it was pretty good. My sample size was quite small admittedly and I’ve no idea what the general opinion of it is.

Watched it last night on our new projector, not entirely sure what I thought of it or whether I actually enjoyed it. It's an assault on the senses and very impressive in lots of ways but I didn't think it was anywhere near as clever as it thinks it is which a lot of route one button pressing for supposed shock value. Some genuinely funny moments though and some beautiful, if often disturbing, imagery.

Was way better than "The Lobster" though, which I absolutely hated.
