A while ago I kept getting email notifications about this and the trailer and various clips cropped up
on my YouTube list. I watched one or two clips - seems very violent.

Yes, that's fair. It's done fairly cartoonishly, a la Tarantino, but I understand that's not everyone's thing. It's apparently 'based on true events', ie loads of Nazis decamped to the US after the war, especially to NASA, but clearly many liberties have been taken.

Oh, thank you. So we all seem to be aligned....tasteless, but enjoyable.

It’s not a “remake.” It’s putting the character in the MCU, so the story will be different.

I wasn’t that impressed with the Blade films, really. Wesley Snipes isn’t a good
            actor.

Comparing it to Godfather or Casablanca is ridiculous.
            Blade - Great
            Blade II - Decent
Blade: Trinity - Further proof that Ryan Reynolds has done a deal with the Devil to continue to have a career after this and the absolute swing and a miss that was Green Lantern.

Someone do a proper Hal Jordan film, please (there are some good animated ones, as ever with DC, their animation shits on their films from a great height).

I didn’t hate the Green Lantern film.

It wasn't really as terrible as the critics made out, it was just a bit of a mess. However, Mark Strong was perfectly cast as Sinestro.

Shit, I thought you were on about Green Hornet this whole time. It was a bit poo, with a few laughs.

Yes. Bummer they couldn’t do a sequel with him. He turns yellow in the post credits.

I’m watching Injustice, a DC comics animated thing about an alternative DCU where Joker takes it too far and Superman loses his shit.

I liked the Expressionist style of The Tragedy of Macbeth, and very much enjoyed Alex Hassell as Ross and particularly Kathryn Hunter's turn as the witches. Always good to see Ralph Ineson too, no matter how briefly. Because it was largely shot on sound stage, I did feel it a bit stagey, and I didn't sense any chemistry between Frances McDormand and Denzel Washington.

I can't see where we have a standalone Ray Donovan, but the wrap-up movie aired last week. A great series, which ended with a no-ending thud. This movie really helped, fleshing out a lot of un-explored backstory and bringing it forward to a (rather) satisfying conclusion. I think they did well to tie up a lot of loose ends and give us a last look at a lot of characters, big and small.

If you have this series available somewhere, give it a season. If it doesn't hook you, that's fine. But I think it takes more than an episode or two to 'get' it.

Tonight's viewing will be the conclusion of Seventh Samurai followed by Steve Buscemi's Trees Lounge, unless I fall asleep first.

I think I liked the Michael Fassbender version a bit better. That seemed to have more chemistry between the eponymous leads, as I recall.

By casting older lead actors, this version suggests the MacBeths are getting on in years and tired of seeing other warlords get all the glory. So they’re taking their last shot. That subtext isn’t in some other versions.

Very excited to hear this as I loved the show from the start. I just have to find some way to watch the movie in the UK now.

Yes, I re-watched the Kurzel adaptation a few months ago. Fassbender and Cotillard were excellent

The new C4 ‘Walter Presents’ offering is a German series called ‘Dark Woods’. More4 are showing it on Friday nights at 9.00pm but it’s also up on the C4 app. They are putting it out in three two-hour packages of which we have seen the first and it’s very good. I have said previously that ‘Walter Presents’ sets a really high standard of dramas (and occasional comedy) on its roster, lots of which are available on the C4 app. It’s like a European HBO.

Someone mentioned Marion Cotillard. I had to sit down for a moment.

Anyway, did someone here say Yellowstone was very violent? It’s on our list otherwise.

It has violent moments, which are noisy but more cartoonish than gory. Unfortunately the series pretty much opens with one, presumably to grab everyone's attention. They're odd and kind of out of sync with the rest of the show which, for me, is kind of elegaic.

Will likely watch Throne of Blood tonight, seeing as i'm on a Macbeth trip atm.

No, not really. People get dispatched, but it's no Sopranos. We've just finished it and are missing it already.

It definitely has violence in it. The most recent series largely (but not completely) moderated that aspect of it.
