    Desperate sequels

    M. Night Shayalaman is doing a sequel to Unbreakable called 'Mister Glass'.

It's 20 years later. Who seriously gives any sort of fuck about that film?

Unbreakable is a great film, and was ahead of its time in the way it dissected the superhero genre before it had really taken off. Also it ties into Split as well, which was released last year. Shayalaman has churned out some absolute turkeys in his career but Unbreakable was by far his best work, even more so than Sixth Sense.

I remember being fascinated by the trailer to Unbreakable when I went to watch another film at the cinema (it may have been The Faculty, though I can't be certain) and was adamant I had to see it at the cinema.

It is a very good film, but I felt it dragged a little. Definitely my favourite Shyalaman one though.

As a big fan of 'Unbreakable' I went to see 'Glass' last night (having watched 'Split' last week in preparation last week, never realising it was a "stealth sequel" to 'Unbreakable' at the time of release or until the promo for the new film started).

It's enjoyable enough but all over the place in terms of style & narrative and deeply, deeply silly at times (as Shayalaman movies normally are, to be fair). All the best bits centred around Bruce Willis and Spencer Treat Clark's father & son relationship and James McAvoy's multiple-personality performance (though thankfully without most of the torture-porn exploitative edge that 'Split' had).
