    Favorite Westerns

Maybe been done before but mine in no particular order

    "The Magnificent Seven"
    "High Noon"
    "Duel At Diablo"
    "Fistful Of Dollars"
    'The Searchers"
    "Vera Cruz"
    "Destry Rides Again"
    "El Dorado"
    "Winchester 73"
    "3.10 To Yuma"

    Probably think of others later.

    The Outlaw Josey Wales
    Pale Rider
    High Noon
    Tombstone
    Young Guns (So there!)
Young Guns II (Double so there!)

I should like Unforgiven, but I find it more a quote mine than a compelling story. "Deserve's got nothing to do with it." is one of the best lines in any film, both in context and delivery.

The Quick and the Dead. So bad it's... well, it's still pretty bad, but always good to see a good cast hamming it up.

I feel the need to add Shane, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and The Searchers.

I'd see many of those already mentioned and raise you:

          Broken Arrow

          Stagecoach

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

          Little Big Man

The Searchers is in the Top 10 American films ever made. The BFI book is essential. https://www.amazon.com/Searchers-BFI...7194051&sr=1-1

Red River is also in the 10 IMHO.

I like some parts of Heaven's Gate, specifically the Christopher Walken scenes, although the film doesn't work as a whole concept or experience (and UA were reluctant to call it a western).

For A Few Dollars More is a personal favourite

"Once Upon A Time In The West"

Once Upon A Time in the West in the 20th century.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford in the last 18 years.

Honourable mention goes to Tombstone just for Val Kilmer being magnificent as Doc Holliday.

I’m glad Unforgiven isn’t getting the love. Josey and Pale Rider are far superior Clints. Sierra Madre but, what a Filum.

Hmm, you're stretching it to say the least.

My own favourite top five of all time western movies includes Rio Bravo, but even that is one third a promotion for Ricky Nelson, has who is probably the worst actor of all times, John Wayne. And my house god Dean Martin who saves the entire god damn thing.
John Wayne was so shit as an actor stand up comedians struggled to do impression of his shite because it was too easy.
Wayne was a Schwarzenegger without the Austrian accent.
Yet, I still proclaim Rio Bravo is magnificent, because of Dean Martin.

                          You sir, deserve a harumph.

A brilliant pic but i was saving it for any thread about favourite comedies.

Dollars trilogy, the Seven and High Noon are my (very trad) favourites.

But, possibly more than any film, this, often while being violently travel sick into a plastic ice cream carton somewhere between Llandeilo and Llandovery,

Good to see Broken Arrow getting a vote above.Shane was a favourite in my family when I was little. Nowadays, the ones I'd rate highest are the Leone Eastwood films and Once Upon a Time... I also think The Outlaw Josie Wales must be one of the most satisfying films ever made. Ulzana's Raid is a film I'd recommend people seek out if they haven't seen it. To my shame, I've never seen Red River but I'm going through a phase of catching up on films considered absolute classics so may rectify that soon.

In my snotty "Rik Mayall from the Young Ones" phase, I was easily manipulated into watching classic Westerns, and I'm glad I was:

"You've got to watch High Noon, it's about McCarthysim! Don't knock The Magnificent Seven, it's Socialism!", etc.

For entirely different reasons, I still enjoy Silverado. Even John Cleese couldn't ruin it.

I'm rather fond of John Wayne's final film, The Shootist.

Wayne was perfect for the roles John Ford cast him in, and Ford made him really act, as Hawks did on Red River. He's unwatchable everywhere else but I would defend his performance on The Searchers as capturing very well the darkness and lostness of Ethan's character in its context, perhaps because there's a lot of that character in who Wayne was in modern liberal Hollywood, a man out of his time, a savage in a world that needed civilized men to stop the eye for an eye violence and racism from escalating.

I'm a big, big fan of High Plains Drifter.

(I also really enjoy The Quick and the Dead. It's not particularly good, but it is good fun.)

Until a certain plot point, I really enjoyed The Hateful Eight.
