Not sure if I mentioned it before but the AlMuqaddimah channel on youtube is great for Islamic history of the middle East and especially the Indian subcontinent https://www.youtube.com/c/AlMuqaddimah

Another one is called voices of the past, which are contemporaneous accounts of people encountering alien society (i.e, a Japanese priest visiting medieval Europe or an Icelandic slave in 17th Century Turkey. https://www.youtube.com/c/VoicesofthePast

Potentially useful Twitter thread on English-language pods about football in particular countries/regions (I can't remember if I've mentioned I'm the J3 guy on the J-Talk Extra Time pod).

Given how many other South American nation-specific ones she listens to, I must have inadvertently done something to offend her at some point.

Are you a listener to the Jaffa Cakes For Proust podcast then Satch? It's the one that got me into podcasts in the very first place a few years ago, specifically by my brother introducing me to their early episode 'Hauntology vs Millennial Nostalgia'.

No, but I'll check it out, VA.

Late Era: critical discussions of albums released by significant artists* at the late end of their careers:

                    https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas...a/id1521901941

*Joni, Macca, Neil Young, Paul Simon etc

The same trio also had a Chicago podcast (usually very hostile to the band, but not always) that did the first 18 albums:

Often funny and very New York, in a good way.

Edit: but also very flawed, as shown in the AOC thread, but he's a kind of guilty pleasure when riffing about neoliberals and Jordan Peterson.

Very much in my personal wheelhouse, but this history of the Weather Underground by Bernadine Dohrn's son (with lots of input from her) is captivating

The Line of Fire Podcast with Ramita Navai.

Ramita talks to fellow war reporters about the life-changing moment they faced death. As guests recount extraordinary stories of kidnap and danger, they explore what the experience taught them about themselves and the world, and how it's changed their perspectives on life. Fuck me, the interviews are grim, but compelling - and she's a brilliant interviewer.

I listened to these as part of my Vittles subscription (which I cannot recommend enough if you want good food writing). They are very good, reminded me of the best sort of R4 documentary.

Edit: it's about English food, and what makes food English.

Just discovered Shaun Keaveny's The Line-Up. Pretty simple premise – his guest curates their dream festival line-up (five slots to fill), and also has to decide the name, location, and food offering off this fantasy festival. The chat also bounces around their life and musical loves. Basically, it's Desert Island Discs with booze and swearing. He's done a few series now (no idea how I didn't discover it earlier), and had some fantastic guests, mainly from the worlds of music and acting.

I've mentioned it before but this "The Full English" is really really good.

I've just re listened to "Factory Farms" which has really got me asking myself some questions about processed food, especially vegan processed foods.

The episode about the creation of "Modern European Cooking" is also massively interesting.

This is outstanding (and about a vital subject I only knew parts of)
