    Brilliant premise!

Been really enjoying the "We Have Ways of Making You Talk" podcast with Al Murray and James Holland.

Basically Al and James talk about a particular subject concerning World War Two and answer questions from listeners. Both have a wide range of knowledge and, despite the often very serious subject matter, it's a lot of fun. It's usually around 45 minutes long and perfect if you're interested in the subject.

Highlights include Miles Jupp, Justin Edwards, Tom Bell, Kevin Eldon and Bridget Christie.
Some of the guests don't get into it so well, but the ones mentioned above are spectacular, especially Jupp and Eldon (who actually turns the tables on Reed and pushes everything loads further.)

Three seasons of 7 eps each, none more than 25 minutes long.
Listening to the Eldon one now; many thanks!

Finished Jon Ronson's "The Last Days of August," about the porn actress August Ames' suicide. Tough listen in parts, and he sets out at the beginning of episode 2 to say that he's not trying to turn the show into a whodunit, but it does spend a lot of time going over what her husband has said to him and others about what he did, and if he was completely truthful about his actions the night she went missing. Overall though, it's a story about how the adult industry fails to take care of the people involved in it.

For a recommendation of a specific podcast episode, Alan Moore interviewed by Will Menaker on Chapo this week was brilliant.

I've actually started listening to podcasts lately, largely because Spotify have finally got a decent number of them on there. Listened to the whole of The History of Rome and have so far reached the end of the French Revolution in Revolutions, and I've also started The History of English Podcast after seeing Mike Duncan (who does HOR and Rev) recommend it on Twitter. it is excellent, and all of this is good research / food for thought for my next project (see Books for a clue, if you're curious).

SMERSHPod has been a bit unfocused since it's main reason for existing was completed (go through all the Bond films). It' still very good, just not hitting the heights. Series 3 is about 80s action movies and the latest one about Biggles: An Adventure in Time is bloody hilarious.

The one last week, where the guest went on the tangent about ex-Hollyoaks star Paul Danan's drunken sweary Preston Christmas lights debacle, was hilarious.

Sam, co-sign on History Of English podcast. I’m up to episode 127 now, which is still only Chaucer and The Canterbury Tales. It has been an amazingly enriching journey and the quality has not dropped one iota over the years.

Was feeling a bit down the other day so I listened to Adam Buxton's Taffin episode, for what must be the 4th or 5th time, and it still made me laugh like a loon.

I'm not a big fan of Buxton but his extended "The books! Go on love, you know, the books! Do the books!" bit absolutely creased me up.

Yep, love that bit and the later "derty fokker" variation on a similar theme.

Ah, is that the clip of him discussing Pierce Brosnan's bizarre delivery of 'Maybe you shouldn't BE LIVING HERE!'? I've only heard that in the form of a short YouTube audio clip, not knowing where it was from. Is it at all representative? If so I'll have to check SMERSHpod out.

And dd, glad to hear it keeps up the same level! I said to my girlfriend last night that she has to listen to the first eight episodes as well, because she'd love all the stuff about the Indo-European roots. I was already familiar with what Indo-European was (as will she be, having spent her whole life studying language), but not in that much detail or told that interestingly. Going to give episode 10 a listen now, there's cleaning to be done!

I'd say its pretty representative of the whole podcast which, for me anyway, has a good half-a-dozen proper laugh out loud moments.

On the assumption that that's half a dozen per episode and not over the whole run of the podcast, I'll be giving it a listen at some point, then.

Ooh I'm getting Bough and Cable Uni flashbacks! I'll have to give the History of English thing a go. I once knew the Lord's Prayer in Anglo Saxon.

And to think i didn't get laid much in college.

Very much enjoying Jim Cornette's expletive laden wrestling podcasts. His "lights out" rant against the recent abortion laws, expanding to all things Trump and Republican was jaw dropping in its epic scope.

I don't think I've ever mentioned Citations Needed on here. Some episodes may be too US-focused for all of you, but it's a political/media criticism show that tries to cut through the standard anti-left talking points the media take for granted. Some episodes I'd recommend:

About "frugality fables" and financial advice journalism, how the media talks about corruption, and heartwarming copaganda stories.

Radio 4 documentary on the British Black Panthers last night was good. Deserved longer/more discussion and debate but some great archive recording snippets- always love hearing Darcus Howe in full voice, for example

I'm pretty sure that originated on the 6 Music show he did with Joe Cornish. I find Buxton's solo podcast a bit hit and miss, as it tends to be very rambly, and is heavily dependent on the quality of the guest. And that's despite finding his live Bug-style shows extremely funny.

New Chart Music - August 1981. After a couple of 8/10 outings, the buildup to actually starting the TOTP episode was definitely 10/10.
