The director of L.A. Confidential and The Wonder Boys has died, aged 71. He'd been suffering from Alzheimer's recently. A sad loss.

I'm sorry to hear that. LA Confidential is a fine film. The Hand That Rocks the Cradle was quite excellent as well, and going further back in time, I recall The Silent Partner making an impression on me, but that is 33 years ago since I saw that. -

LA Confidential remains an ace movie. Titanic may have scooped the Oscars in the same year it was up against Hanson's flick, but I know which one I'd rather return to.
