    Charlie Sheen (not dead)

...but announcing something major today. Thought to be that he is HIV+

A "Hollywood A-Lister" was outed as HIV+ by an "ex-porn star girlfriend" several weeks ago, who said he'd contacted her and "50 other ex-partners" to tell them to take a test.

It didn't take a lot to work out who the tabloids were referring to.

The idea that Sheen had to phone all these women to advise them to take an HIV test suggests a high level of sexual irresponsibility. While I am very conscious of the problems of the AIDS stigma, it is very diffcult to have much sympathy for that guy.

I feel bad for his family though.

        As does "Charlie Sheen".

Not making light, but isn't that pretty much his whole 'brand'?

His character in "Two and a Half Men" was, I believe, a very thinly-vieled parody of his actual life.

I wonder how the timing of this (four years ago) lines up with his very public meltdown/binging/'comedy' tour and whatnot.

I was hoping that OTF would ignore this one. And if not, that I wouldn't post on it.

Why so? This doesn't seem terribly contentious or anything.

I'm just projecting my self-loathing. Like to share it around.

Sheen is the poster boy for car crash gawking, and I gawk and tut-tut along with the rest. All exacerbated because the loathsome fucker can act. "Two and a Half men" is evil, while he and Jon Cryer nail it.

                          That wasn't very funny, either.

Major League was entertaining, but largely for reasons having nothing to do with Sheen.

                              From his Lauer interview today:

Hopefully with what we're doing today, others may come forward and say 'Thanks, Charlie. Thanks for kicking the door open.'"

                              So selfless and misunderstood.

Last month saw the 30th anniversary of the death of Rock Hudson. He was, of course, one of the first high profile celebrities to become terminally ill with AIDS.

And the world was shocked at his emaciated frame.

Just thinking of how the world has changed since then.

I wasn't really thinking of sexual irresponsibility in terms of Sheen's cheerful promiscuity. I was thinking more in terms of fucking with life or death. I suppose the term has a different weight in South Africa, where HIV/AIDS is still very much an issue.

Some report I saw stated that four women have come forward with a claim that Sheen had knowingly exposed them to HIV/Aids. If so, then the guy is a despicable monster.

From all the reports at the time of his lifestyle it seems likely that he's infected others. Scum.

If they can prove that, what's the charge in America for knowingly infecting someone with HIV in the US?

It's been prosecuted as a criminal offense in a number of states, although most experts believe that is actually counterproductive.

                                          The Wiki is quite comprehensive.

The news I heard yesterday said Sheen became famous in the 1980s for films such as Platoon and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. First one is fair enough, but he appears for about a minute at the end of Ferris Bueller. It's almost as if someone looked on his IMDB page and looked for the two oldest films that they'd heard of.
