I would go for the "Yosser" episode of Boys From The Blackstuff, although you could also make a case for each episode in the series.

The Sopranos had a few; difficult to choose just one. I suppose any where Tony comes close to getting whacked but comes through. Some of the scenes where Tony's wife considers adultery; or some of the stuff with Tony's mother or sister.

In terms of an increase in quality over all the other episodes, and for the sheer drama of it (not just the shoot-out, but the resolution of Blake and Avon's relationship too), Blake's 7's 'Blake' is worth a mention.
