Unsuccessful adversaries in TV and film

We will take Tom Cat and Wile E Coyote as read.

    1. Dastardly & Muttley (Wacky Races). Despite seventeen races in the fastest car, they never won once.

    2. Jack McGee (The Incredible Hulk). Possibly the world's least successful investigative reporter. Failed to identify David Banner in 81 episodes.

Skeletor's inability to work out that Prince Adam and He-Man were the same person (130 episodes) always left me scratching my head.

With the possible exception of Walker and Frazer, did anybody in Dad's Army manage to outsmart anybody else?

Boss Hawg of Hazzard never bettered those Duke siblings.

And although he got close on many occasions and Mysteron-ified a number of minor SPECTRUM agents, Captain Black always failed in his quest to foil Captain Scarlet.

Captain Peacock always lost out against Mr. Lucas, Mr. Humphries, Mr. Grainger, Mrs Slocombe and Miss Brahms, although he may have outfoxed Mr. Rumbold once or twice.

                  Did in the film? (?)

After appointing FEMALE!! drivers (leading quite rightly to a strike by the men, this was the 1970s after all) he eventually agreed to their demands.

And promptly re-deployed them as inspectors.

Um. Captain Black didn't set out to foil Captain Scarlet. Was t'other way about. And Spectrum didn't always succeed in stopping the Mysterons' plans (particularly not in the Annuals and TV21)

Which allows us to neatly segue into the machinations of "The Hooded Claw" - aka Sylvester Sneakly - and his attempt to secure the inheritance of one Penelope Pitstop.

Dibble never really worried about the antics of a bunch of low-rent penny-ante hucksters like TC and his gang.

He concentrated his efforts on brining to book the bigger criminals.

Re: Dastardly & Muttley - if you are aware of the Fender Bender 500 shorts of the early 90s (basically a Hanna-Barbera All-Stars version of Wacky Races), they did actually win at least one race.

                            I have even found proof:

                              Lex Luthor & Ernst Blofeld.

Both bald and undeniably losers in their multi-filmic combat with 'heroes'.

Also never seen in the same place. Were they the same villain using different aliases?

Unlike Prince Adam, at least Sylvester Sneakly fashioned a passable disguise.

Maybe if the murderers had unionised and started working together things might have been different.

On a slight tangent, did you know that there was a Magnum PI/Murder She Wrote crossover episode? I'm saving that one for a rainy day.

On topic, did Colonel Decker ever recapture the A-Team?

On a Dukes of Hazzard vibe, James Best (Roscoe P Coltrane) died today. Used to love his character as a kid.

He'd typically capture them in a building full of power tools and welding equipment.

And let's not forget the likes of Patrick McGoohan, Jack Cassidy, Robert Culp, George Hamilton, and William Shatner.

All of whom were apprehended by Lt. Columbo - escaped (?) from prison, created a new identity for themselves, and blow me - went and compromised that by killing again.

(And again and again in the case of John Drake)

Obviously, anyone who ever took on the Scooby-Doo mob. It must be stated that those 'meddling' kids were extremely fortunate indeed that every criminal encountered tended to use low-end costume as opposed to lethal weaponry in his attempts at whatever deception was eventually to be foiled. (Come to think of it, were any of those baddies ever women?)

If either of my daughters got themselves involved in anything like that - with or without psychedelically-decorated camper van - they'd get a stern lecture, I don't mind telling you.

Edit: I initially read that as 'Carol Decker' - which undoubtedly would've made for the Most Eighties Moment Ever.
