A quite beautiful film this, about Phillipe Petit's wirewalk between the twin towers in 1974. A simply done mix of reconstruction, interviews and archive footage. It works because of the poetic nature of the walk and the sheer, brilliant lunacy of everyone involved. Petit is an incredible character- the angular looks of a post-punk singer, an almost autistic obsession and a brilliant hyperactive mode of storytelling.
Strange choice of recycled music though. The 'Twin Towers theme' is a Michael Nyman piece from The Cook, The Thief, The Wife and His Lover (which worked), but there was another Nyman piece which sounded a little too English Country House to work in New York.
Anyway, recommended.
