    Public Information Films

I've just found 'Apaches' on my hard drive. I've never seen it before. Given how long it is, would it be a schools only film (which given how far I lived from a farm, would be why we never saw it when Bert Bissell showed us videos on the last day of term), or was it ever shown on television?

Also, I've been rooting through some old videos to see if anything is worth copying onto DVD. And I've found an absolute corker of a PIF (again that I'd never seen), in terms of "who the fuck thought they would be the right people". Such a bizarre pairing, I'm opening it up as a quiz.

You're making a PIF about getting the correct measurements to give to a baby. It's the late 80s, early 90s. Which well known TV pair would you choose to get the message across?

(If you know the answer, don't say, I want to see if anyone actually guesses it).

Pretty much everything there is to know about Apaches, I would imagine. John Mackenzie of course went on to direct The Long Good Friday.

I think I mentioned on the old board once that a documentary on the making of Apaches would be most welcome, preferably including a cast reunion, and perhaps a 'then and now' look at the locations.

And erm, why would you want to give the correct measurements of anything to a baby?

GO was right. The powers that be decided that the best people to show you how to give your baby the correct dose of medicine were Cannon & Ball.

I'll post it up over the next few days.

"Apaches" is pretty hideous, but for that all-out shit yourself and have nightmares effect, you can't beat a bit of "Protect & Survive":

For a refreshing change from the dour, grim tone of politely-conveyed apocalyptic advice, here's Telly Savalas, no less, giving you a tour of 1970's Birmingham. Your bet - that he never set foot in the place - would be easily won.

It's hilarious if you're in the right mood.
