Slightly tangentially, there was an episode of the truly dreadful sitcom Mind Your Language in which the students had to put on some kind of end-of-term show for (presumably) the governors, each one rehearsing a terrible, stereotypical ‘national’ act to perform. When it came to the performance itself, they abandoned this idea and instead stood up en masse and sang the show’s theme song.

It remains among the strangest and most ill-advised pieces of television I’ve ever had the misfortune to witness.

Was the theme tune for Glee, and it’s 1980s antecedent Fame, sung by the cast/one of the cast? I don’t know in either case, but it would be an obvious choice for either show.

Irene Cara sang the theme to Fame,it was a huge hit at the time.

I remember the song. The name means nothing to me. Was she in the show? Or just in the film and not the TV spin off?

Early-1990s Aussie off-the-wall kids' mystery series Round The Twist had its fondly-remembered theme tune ("Have you ever, ever felt like this / Have strange things happened, are you going round the twist?") sung by teenage cast member Tamsin West, who played Linda Twist.

The odd thing was that the gaps between each series (filmed 1989, then 1992, then a revived version from 1999-2000) were such that they kept having to recast the younger characters, so she was replaced as Linda's actress from Series 2 – yet her voice remained on the theme song throughout.
