Dreadful news, only 52 with two young children. Didn’t even know she was unwell. Harry Potter front and centre of course:

Very, very sad news. I saw her in Medea and The Deep Blue Sea at the National Theatre and she was excellent in both.

There's the lovely story she told on Desert Island Discs. When McCrory was early in her career, Lauren Bacall visited her in her dressing room, declaring herself a fan of the young actress' work. McCrory pointed out that there seemed to be a case of mistaken identity. Realising her error, Bacall was embarassed and apologised profusely. McCrory replied (with words to the effect of): "Don't worry, Ms Hepburn, I've been a great fan of yours ever since I saw you in The Philadelphia Story." Bacall liked that and took McCrory out for a drink.
