Khraniteli, or the Soviet Lord of the Rings

So, in 1991, while the Baltic States had already effectively seceded, and the rest of the Soviet Union was rapidly disintegrating, its film industry was experimenting with an adaptation of Tolkien's fantasy epic. In many respects, the production reflects the chaos and penury of the time - the set and lighting are basic, to put it mildly, the costumes look like they came from a fancy dress shop, and the whole thing apparently doesn't even get as far as the end of the Fellowship, but the scenes and characters are at least recognisable.

The Tolkien estate guards his legacy with a vice like grip, I'm surprised they let that get by them.

While the one ring looks like a foil chocolate wrapper all twisted up, they have bothered to get Tom Bombadil and Goldberry in there. Honours even I reckon.
