I'd like to add Phoenix Nights and Man About The House to my list. I watched the latter a few years ago and was very surprised at how well it had held up.
Impossible to meaningfully narrow it down to 10, so here's an arbitrary assortment of great shows, excluding animated shows which have their own thread:
Better Off Ted
Spaced
The Day Today
Jam
Partridge
Arrested Development
Darkplace
Larry Sanders
Black Books
The Thick Of It
Modern Family…. Is this the first mention on this thread? QI (the Stephen Fry era) HIGNFY (the Angus Deayton era) Father Ted Cheers Blackadder Fast Show (doubt this has aged well) Drop The Dead Donkey (ditto) Schitts Creek Simpsons back in the day
Just starting into Parks+Rec on Netflix, looks good
Parks and Recreation is by far the better one from my perspective. But that's because I don;t get Community. It is aimed at an audience way younger than me
Tuca And Bertie
Blue Jam (the radio one)
Porridge
The Simpsons
Cheers/Frasier/Seinfeld/Curb Your Enthusiasm (yes, I think of these as basically the same show)
Father Ted
Since you're here, GY, we're in love with the first three seasons of AD....but S4 is such a let down. Do we stick with it?
Probably not, but it depends on how prone you are to being spoiled when things fall off in quality. I thought season 5 was OK, apart from some jarring bits, and better than 4, but it's nowhere near as good as 1-3. At least it doesn't suffer from the problem 4 had of not being able to get the cast together for scenes.
You're certainly not missing out on anything by not carrying on. 1-3, as abbreviated as it was, is the good stuff.
Apart from the Damian character. People these days would look at that and wonder what was funny.
An egotistical, selfish, lying man-child trying to ladle on the bravado to cover up his personal shame that he's still a virgin in his 30s? If they ever reboot the show, he'd just be in charge of Globelink's social media department, wouldn't he?
Larry Sanders
The Fast Show
Police Squad!
KMKYWAP, though any Partridge except for Season 2 of I'm Alan Partridge
The Day Today
Seinfeld
Cheers
Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads?
Blackadder
The Office (UK)
(shit, forgot Police Squad!, so The Young Ones will come out. Frasier, Father Ted honourable mentions)
The 1st ever episode of One Foot in the Grave set the tone: goes to a night class to get out of the house, ends up stuck in a room with a corpse that someone thought was the model for the make-up\beauty class. I was hooked, anyway.
