    Top Ten Comedy Shows

Created because try as I might, I could only think of 4 drama series that I've genuinely liked over on DPDPDPDP's thread, who I can't seem to tag...

    Steptoe and son
    The Eric Andre show
    Curb your enthusiasm
    Combined works of Alan Partridge
    The Simpsons
    Malcolm in the middle
    The I.T crowd
    Police squad!
    The Dave Chappelle show
    15 storeys high
Last edited by Mr Delicieux; 08-04-2021, 10:52. Reason: Police squad!/15 storeys high in, south park/shooting stars out

Silicon valley and peep show came close to making it, I liked the first two seasons of Rick and Morty, and now I'm thinking about it, police squad could well have displaced one in my top ten list.

I also need to watch the detectorists, would I lie to you and taskmaster, but have yet to watch any of them, and now I live overseas won't be doing so in the immediate future.

            In no particular order:

            Spaced
            Young Ones
            Monty Python's Flying Circus
            Porridge
            Reginald Perrin
Ever Decreasing Circles (yes, it was a comedy)
            Rising Damp
            Father Ted
            Cheers
            Police Squad!

Honourable mentions for Colin's Sandwich, Shelley, Soap and May to December.

EDIT: and for most of the ones on 3CR's list. Can't believe I forgot Bottom, Blackadder and The Fast Show. In truth ten is virtually impossible, isn't it?

I'd have struggled to come up with four, let alone ten.

              Bottom
              The Simpsons (seasons 3-9)
              Blackadder
              Drop The Dead Donkey
              Police Squad!
              The Fast Show
              Father Ted
The Smell Of Reeves And Mortimer
              The Day Today
              Garth Marenghi's Darkplace

In the "need more love" department: 15 Storeys High, Nightingales, Dare To Believe, World Of Pub.

Dare to believe! I can remember being surprised to see such a thing on ITV.
I'm also tempted to switch one of mine out for 15 storeys high.

Where would Freaks & Geeks fit in? Not really comedy, in the sense of sitcoms, nor drama. Ditto The Wonder Years. So I won't list them, though they would rank high in my Top 10.

                  The Office (UK)
                  Friends
                  Blackadder
                  I Am Alan Partridge
                  Seinfeld
                  Fawlty Towers
                  Cheers
                  Police Squad
                  The Partridge Family

We had an interesting experience the other day of accidentally catching the very last episode of Friends followed in the loop by the very first. What a contrast. It reminded me how fresh and 'new' it felt when it came on the air.

Did Golden Girls make much noise over there? I have big love for it, and it's gained intergenerational classic status over here.

It was reasonably popular here. (My parents loved it - but then they lived in the US most of the time they watched it.)

One of the original writers is a good friend of mine, so he'll be thrilled to learn of its 'intergenerational classic status'!

I could add The Simpsons and Father Ted but that would take me to a top 16.

I've lost the ability to do Top Tens or do any rankings about art since my thirties, I equivocate too much.
