Sleuth is utterly wonderful and a reminder that when he wants to, he can really turn it on.

As far as I could tell, Michael Caine only ever acted in one fillum: Educating Rita.

Not a lot of people know that.

Peter Cushing is the first name that springs to mind that hasn't already been mentioned.

That's a great shout, '74. No disrespect to Christopher Lee as a presence, but Cushing was on another plane as an actor who could really engage one's feelings.

Case in point: Island of Terror. An entirely run of the mill "What is killing people and animals science gone wrong so let's fix it with more science" jaunt, but Cushing makes it worth a viewing, especially in the late night, possibly half-pissed slots.

It’s worth a wander in Whitstable to spot Peter Cushing memorabilia, as it’s the seaside town he retired to. Blue plaque on his house, stuff in the museum, and - most prominently - an old art deco cinema sympathetically converted to a Spoons pub carrying his name and lots of old posters/pics inside.
