Interesting.

When I saw the title I thought it would go down another route - the fake "enfranchisement" of giving people a vote on things like Pop Idol, and how that led to the vox pop culture of the BBC, where "Have Your Say" becomes the dominant mentality: letting the loudest voices get heard most. Drowning out the experts and the people with actual power. The idea that this is somehow "democracy". My opinion is just as valid as yours, even if you have a quarter of a century of experience in a field.

This nonsense all started around the Blair era and the reality TV era, and it all feels completely linked to me.
