    Michael Angelis RIP

The Press Association report omits his most important work: Boys From The Blackstuff, No Surrender, G.B.H.:

My first thought was of him as the voice who took over from Ringo Starr on Thomas the Tank Engline – but following your link I see that's what the Guardian have led with! RIP Michael.

I remember him from BFTB, really powerful acting and script.
Everyone seems confused about his age - 68 or 76?

Oh man, Chrissy off Boys From The Blackstuff. That was such an utterly brilliant TV series. RIP

Born 17/1/52 in Dingle, Liverpool. Moved to London in 1972 to become an actor, and his TV work started that year.

His older brother, Paul, was the voice of Ringo in Yellow Submarine. Ringo was also from Dingle. They died at similar ages (Paul 66, Michael 68).

Irony: Paul Angelis plays Ringo; Michael replaces Ringo as Thomas The Tank Engine narrator.

In 1984, Michael appeared in a Radio 4 afternoon play written by Paul:

Some fantastic works there, and worthy of repeat showiing.

Wasn't Eddie Yeats from Coronation Street also one of the Beatles' voices in Yellow Submarine? And now I've come to think of it, wasn't Michael Angelis married, in real life, to Gail Tilsley? Ignore me if all this is rubbish. Just couldn't be bothered to look it up.

I haven't seen GBH for over 20 years but I absolutely loved it. I'd love to see it again. I checked the other week to see if it was on Brit Box. It wasn't. I wonder if it still stands up. My favourite episode is where Robert Lindsey is going mad in a hotel which is holding a Dr Who convention.

Yes in both cases. Yeats was the voice of Paul.

Geoffrey Hughes, to credit his real name.

True, although he's called Geoff Hughes in the credits:

Chrissy's impromptu eulogy at George's funeral was a thing of poignant beauty.
