    Que Sera Sera

    Doris Day has died.

I think she was a great singer. Gorgeous, pure tone. As an actress, not so much, and the virgin trope was obviously annoying. Republican politics not really surprising.

Calamity Jane and Pillow Talk are two of my all time favourite films.

Another familiar screen presence gone. Haven't seen one for a while but I used to really enjoy her '60s comedies as weekend afternoon viewing.

I was going to post something similar on the "Music" forum, possibly under the title "Think of me (wherever you are)" but that was possibly too obscure.

          Huge talent.

Maybe less so as an actor, but still one of the greats.

Could have gone with "Won't be home for tea".

Expect tuneful tributes at the remaining play-off games.

              So.

the dinosaurs died, then the dodo died, then Dando died, now Doris Day has died.

              I bet Dido's bricking it.

              I'll get me coat...

I rated her highly; more so in recent years after having my eyes opened a bit by film friends.

Glad she made it to a good age.

Yeh, that's definitely what all that was about.

                        That was the so-called "joke"

                            All the time.

Never take any of this at face value.

Always dispute it, and always argue, and at least 90% of the time, you'll be right.

That sounds a bit difficult and pointless.

This is very beautiful, from the album she made with Andre Previn in 1962:

When Doris Day's death was announced, I was a bit 'meh' about her legacy as it was all that 'Whip Cack Away' and 'Sentimental Journey' schmaltz. However, the always excellent Last Word on Radio 4 played this which I had never heard before and reminds of Artie Shaw's version of 'Gloomy Sunday' which I love.

For all the virginity stick she had going, her song "Move Over Darling" is all the more enticing for it.

My Mother thought that song was too risque to be played on the radio.
