My mother used to use that quote with some frequency.

It took me years to determine the sources for many of her go to phrases.

Good for her. It wasn't a particular popular film in it's day.

She and her sister spent up to eight hours in the cinema every Saturday (one could do that for five cents at the time).

They saw everything, often more than once.

My mum too. Went to the flicks twice, sometimes three times a week.

I still can't hear "hard boiled eggs" without hearing a honk in my mind.

May stretch the definition of "scene," but the opening to Hard Boiled should be mentioned more when talking about the best openings to films ever. I remember my jaw hitting the floor when I watched it for the first time. What an ingenious use of flour.

For me it's always "hard boiled eggs and nuts" followed by an Olivier Hardy snort of exasperation that it's impossible to write down.

Kevin Spacey's death in LA Confidential.

Steve Rogers gets juiced in Captain America.

The fight in the jail in Mr Vampire.

Thor landing on the rainbow bridge to kick ass in Ragnarok. A comic panel come to life.

Wolverine shows his claws for the first time in X-Men. I nearly did a sex wee.

Superman kicking the crap out of the proto Justice League in...Justice League. And the use of the "big guns" to bring him down.

Bullet to the eye in Superman Returns.

Ty Cobb's second version of the death of his father, together with the devastating punchline (I am aware it's cobblers).

King Kong Vs T Rex (original).

Pretty much everything in The Princess Bride, but especially the visit to Miracle Max (Billy Crystal playing his true age) and The Ancient Booer. My daughter found that bit hilarious and we use it on each other all the time.

                      Utter portentous drivel.

                      But I like it.

                      Waterloo.

                      Now Maitland.

                      Now is your time!

The same film, and the whole von Trapp and Charlie Hungerford scene.

                      Batlle of Britain

                      T5, who are they?

                      ...

Get them down. Get them out of it

                      ...

The RAF is NOT a flying circus

                      ...

And God alone knows why, congratulations this squadron is operational

The meeting between the refiners and the marauders in Mad Max 2. So much character established in six minutes.

The opening of Serenity. Establishes the universe, the history, the bad guy, the ship layout and the relationships between the crew.

From "Ladies and gentlemen, due to the Nakatomi Corporation's legacy of greed around the globe, it is about to be taught a lesson on real power. You...will be witnesses." to "Very well, we'll do it the hard way".

The opening of Elektra, where a Bad Guy Boss narrates his own death.

The opening heist in The Dark Knight

                        The end of Arlington Road

The Gremlins take over Derrys Bar.

Mikey's speech to One Eyed Willy in The Goonies.

Why didn't Takagi just open the safe or hand over the codes?

After all, they were insured, and the film set in the plaza would be over inside half an hour.

And that one in the airport?

                              It cannot happen

I'd like to select something from 12 Angry Men but my favourite bit is about 96 minutes long.

Having watched The Big Lebowski again this evening, motivated purely by chat on Mundane Thread:

Not saying it's my favourite but my biggest outburst of laughter was actually a scene without dialogue:
