Last Night, I Was Disappointed By...
I agree with you that the found footage genre has been truly flogged to death.
Although the first time where I saw it used was Cannibal Holocaust, which preceded Blair Witch by about twenty years. And, arguably, Man Bites Dog.
But you can't move for the bloody things now.

I didn't know what 'Found Footage' was until I read this post and looked it up, how does 'Man Bites Dog' qualify?
Because all the protagonists are dead at the end of the film and -- by implication -- someone must have found their film stock.

Not sure 'found footage' is a genre as such. Don't all the found-footage films so far have 'horror' in common?
(Happy to be corrected).

Cloverfield was on FilmFour a few months ago. I recorded it and watched it a couple of nights later.
After more than half an hour of watching it, I genuinely thought I had got the wrong film by mistake. The party scene was like an endless remix of that Heineken ad where a succession of hip, well-dressed young Manhattanites keep greeting the carrier of a crate of Heineken (i.e. the cameraman) at the front door of their loft apartments. "Heyyyyyyyy, come on in, maaaaaan!"
It wasn't too bad when the actual story began, after roughly 40 minutes of an 80-minute film.
