    The English Surgeon

    Anybody seen this 2007 docco?

Incredible stuff. A British neurosurgeon, Henry Marsh, who for 15 years has been visiting Ukraine, bringing discarded medical equipment and expertise, operating on patients and training other doctors. Graphic depiction of surgery, unbearably moving meditation on hubristic errors he made in the past, resulting in tragedy. Beautifully shot, with a soundtrack by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis of The Dirty Three.

One of the very best films I've seen in a long time.

    Nobody, seriously?

Do yourselves a favour and watch it. It's near-legendary among documentarists apparently; which is why a copy turned up in my friend's office which she borrowed and we watched. Absolutely gripping.
