Banksy's Exit Thru the Gift Shop

He puts in a shadowy appearance providing some tart observations on the current state of street art. It's billed as the first street art disaster movie and it's worth a look if you're into that stuff. The film basically follows the fortunes of an LA-based "filmmaker" who with Banksy's help and horror morphs into a commercially succesful artist in his own right. The film is really about how celebrity and hype combine to create something that's either art, a rip-off, a con, or a complete joke. By the end it's hard to tell which. There's some funny shit in here. Definitely recommended.

I thought it was very good. I still don't know how much of the story was real and how much is just there to see how gullible the viewer is. The first half of the film was an very funny and informative introduction to the main street art innovators, it starts to question how art is commercialised in the second half - the biggest offender seems to be Banksy from the way the film describes the hullabaloo surrounding his gallery opening in LA.
