    Storyboard a BBC4 biopic

Budget of £75, up from the £55 that will suffice for the Boy George one, because there's more old stuff to recreate. I present to you the life of Jimmy Hill.

Scene 1: Little boy bullied at school over his big chin.

Scene 2: Same boy being better than everyone else at football.

Scene 3: Same boy in a classroom looking studious. "Football's not enough.."

Scene 4: Young man playing football. Scores a goal then runs back to the halfway line doing a funny jump. Flash forward to him opening a wage packet and looking disappointed.

Scene 5: Slightly older now wearing a suit. Says "I don't normally agree with strikes, but.."

Scene 6: Sitting in a football directors' box watching seats being ripped out. He muses: "Time will tell! In the meantime, a good sharp shock...."

Scene 7: A linesman gets injured. He comes on and runs the line

Scene 8: He presents Match of The Day.
Scene 8a): Jimmy gets on a plane and says "I think it's better we see Apartheid for ourselves"

Scene 9: Some Scotch people are angry with him.

Scene 10: He has a row with someone from the BBC. "What do you mean pundit? I do the whole fucking show".

Scene 11: The Real Jimmy Hill watching this show on TV. And calling his real lawyer.

Still searching for a comedian to play Jimmy, preferable one who hasn't done much proper acting. The current favourite is:

Scene 12: Me getting paid my fee by the controller of BBC4. I look as disappointed as Jimmy did earlier. "Sorry, it's not policy to pay more than £2 for something Ian64 could do in his sleep".

Very good. Too good for a nil thread.

Excellent - but let's flesh out the details.

Theme tune: 'Jimmy Jimmy' by The Undertones, to play over opening sequence of young Jimmy at school.

Actors: I reckon Jimmy Carr might be a real coup for the lead role.

Title: 'The Man That Made Football'? 'The Man That Fotball Forgot'? 'Chin Up'?

Thanks. I'm a bit of a nil thread specialist. I even mentioned another OTFer (ian64) in this post, and didn't even get a post from him.

There's a column by Andrew Collins in the current issue of Word mag about the rules of writing a music biopic, and it's pretty similar.

Oy! Stop that! You're making me sound like a dastardly, heartless villain with no powers of appreciation for anyone's work.

I'm carrying on kipping because you're doing a fine job of storyboarding yourself (not yourself, I mean the subject at hand). Hmm...might join in when I think of a ripe subject.

I didn't nick the idea off Andrew Collins. I nicked it from YATR.

Anyhow, Ian, how about someone names a celebrity and you do the storyboard?

Comedy is still the new Rock and Roll. Only 18 years ago, Baddiel and Newman sold out Wembley Arena etc.

Oh, I wasn't suggesting you nicked it.

I know, it was a gag. If you fluff feedlines like that, I have no option but to misrepresent you.

That programme about the expenses scandal looked to be in this mould. Did anyone watch it?

I know it's a bit daft but I can never get over the bad lookey-likey aspect of the casting. They'd have cast Roy Kinnear as Michael Martin if he was still alive.

Ooh, dunno. My confidence in my abilities is compromised by the fact that I might cock it up regally and lead to you think you'd do a better job yourself.

Don't ask me why, but as soon as I read your thread, I was toying with a make-believe fantasy bio of the rostrum camera king, Ken Morse, whose name was practically on every television programme from the early '70's onwards.

Big Train did have a crack at it. (Kind of.)

I'd have to get back on my home PC to see that (the work one's a pile of cack that won't play that clip).

Right (blows cheeks). I'll have to have a ponder.
