Judge me by the books I've read but shouldn't have

Chariots of the Gods (and a couple of other von Danicken's). Pyramid Power.
Cane and Able. Not A Penny More, Not A Penny Less.
A chunk of a Danielle Steele book that was sitting on a bedside table when I didn't have anything else to read.
    Bridget Jones' Diary.

Wyatt corrects me on the spelling of "Kane and Abel" on another thread.

The things about these is that I knew they were going to be bad. And I still read them anyway.

Wait a minute - this is the same thread as Judge Me By What I Should Have Put Down But Didn't. I think.

I don't think so. These are books I knew I shouldn't have read in the first place.

The ones I should have put down are books I didn't know were bad when I started but still trudged on through them.

That was my understanding of this thread too - you knew in advance that the books were going to be rubbish, but for some reason you still not just started them, but read them through right to the bitter end, blanching at every cliché and unsupported argument, and wincing at every shallow characterisation and stilted dialogue.

Is it really that bad? I've not read it but heard several people argue that, while not Jane Austen, the author does a reasonably witty job of illustrating the internally conflicted life of contemporary women.
