    Richard Flanagan

    This guy is very good.

I'm halfway through his most recent book, The Unknown Terrorist, a story about terrorism in placid metropolitan Sydney, and it's excellent. He's very skilled at writing about weighty matters with a deceptively light touch.

He's written a lot of stuff for the Guardian in the past about the environmental rape of Tasmania.

Getting no replies, I can handle. But getting not one single page view, at all??

    Bastards.

Anyway, check Flanagan out, he's great.

I'll chime in. I've not read the Unknown Terrorist, but have raved to all and sundry about two of his earlier books: Gould's Book of Fish and Death of a River Guide. Probably two of my favourite modern Australian novels.

He also wrote a brilliant piece of polemic about the destruction of Tasmania's forests that left me feeling depressed and hopeless. (edit - as I see now you've already touched on)
