The Caxton Private Lending Library & Book Deposit

Most posters here will be familiar with John Connolly's Charlie Parker series, and thus aware that his usual literary bent is Gothic horror-influenced detective novels. Now, however, he has elected to transcend stereotypes, publishing a meta-literary novella. Basically the CPLL&BD stands as a metaphor for literary posterity, with fictional characters "coming to life" upon the death of their creator, and physically residing within the titular building. Connolly has a ball with the concept, re-writing the end of Anna Karenina, after his hero repeatedly witnesses her committing suicide, showing his disdain for Hardy conclusions, and in a spin-off tale, forcing Arthur Conan Doyle to produce shoddy Holmesian stories, after a premature materialisation following The Final Problem risks duplication when both characters return in The Empty House.

It's always nice to know when you're not one of most posters...
