Thanks for the tip - put me on to the Ian Penman book everyone's been recommending and which I'd forgotten about.

I've gone for the Tokarczuk, Grudova and the Kinsky.

I would recommend the Alexievich and Zone by Enard (the other two I read are a bit samey). Pond by Bennett was ok.

Of note is Football by Jean-Philippe Toussaint, it's not as good as his other fiction but does include Zidane's Melancholy which is an amazing piece of writing.

        Fantastic publisher.

The book by Ian, who I love to bits, I think says something along the lines of, "publishers these days demand shorter and shorter word counts, it's so hard to express yourself these days when you're constrained by space". Take that with a pinch of salt! One time, he submitted 20,000 odd words too much for a chapter for a book. So we ran it.

Verso Books have a sale on - https://www.versobooks.com/lists/456...day-flash-sale

I found Insurgent Empire by Priyamvada Gopal and Full Surrogacy Now by Sophie Lewis, both of which I've been wanting to read. A terrific essay by Lewis is also on the site - https://www.versobooks.com/blogs/457...-to-make-it-up

I'm always disappointed that this thread isn't about which OTF contributors have sold their novel in a 6-way auction.

The first time I saw this thread I thought it was going to be something along those lines too. Rather than 6-way auctions, all my 'deals' have been along the lines of 'Take it while you can because you're not going to get a better offer, and if you don't hurry up and accept our paltry advance you'll get fuck all.'

Did you look at the Kinsky? I have it in my to read pile but one of the reasons I picked it up was how Sebaldish both the topic and structure appear. Of course I may have let myself in for a pastiche.
