    Books about C&W music

As I was in Nashville last week, I decided to finally get around to reading Nicholas Dawidoff's In The Country of Country that I fished out of a five-buck bargain bin about eight years ago. Damned excellent book - well-researched and packed with great histories, interviews and anecdotes, and it also put me onto the Louvin Brothers, who despite being redneck assholes are incredible singers. It's the only book on the subject I've ever read, though I did once read the first 100 pages or so of Loretta Lynn's autobiography 'Coal Miner's Daughter,' but having seen the film I didn't persevere. Anyone else dabbled in the tomes of twang and Tennessee?

Kind of modern day pulp fiction. Humorous wisecracking jewish cowboy PI in New York stuff.
